Australia's electricity industry

Australia's electricity industry consists of four types of enterprises:

Distributors such as SA Power Networks - that design, construct and maintain the network of "poles and wires", including transformers and substations, which deliver power to homes and businesses.

Power generators that produce energy to sell to the wholesale electricity market.

Transmitters that transport power from generators to the distribution system via the high voltage transmission network.

Retailers that purchase power from the wholesale electricity market to sell to retail customers. See a list of South Australia's electricity retailers.
