We use helicopters and flying drones for general powerline inspections to find electrical faults and to string powerlines over rough or sensitive terrain. We are also developing a robotics program that will automate raw asset data collection, improve safety in the field and develop skills within our organisation for the use of future drone and robotics technologies.

Learn more about the different ways we use technology to inspect powerlines below.

Inspections by aerial drones

Inspections by aerial drones

SA Power Networks uses aerial drones for general powerline inspections, to find electrical faults and to string powerlines over rough or sensitive terrain.

Inspections by helicopter

Inspections by helicopter

Helicopter inspections provide a bird’s eye view of the network to identify any obvious faults or potential defects we might miss from the ground.

Inspections by robots
