Lobethal substation upgrade
August – November 2024
What we’re doing
We are undertaking significant upgrades to the Lobethal substation to ensure a reliable power supply for customers in the area. This project will include civil work, equipment upgrades, and installing some new fencing, and the installation of a mobile substation to supply power to the area while our crew works on the substation safely.
All work will be carried out within the substation, located at 25 Kenton Valley Road, Lobethal, near Brettig Road. Major project work is scheduled to start on 5 August and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2024. Work will not be conducted every day during this period.
How this affects you
The majority of work is scheduled to occur during daylight hours, with some activities planned for weekends. We will notify you in advance if there are any changes that require work be carried out during nighttime hours.
Traffic impacts - Kenton Valley Road
Reduced speed limits are in effect on Kenton Valley Road near our substation and will continue until late October. The speed limit is reduced to 60 km/h in both directions 24/7 due to ongoing work at the substation. When required, the speed limit will be lowered to 40km/h and 25 km/h for safety.
There will be lane closures near our substation on Kenton Valley Road with detours in place from 10am on Monday 5 August, and a full road stoppage near the substation for approximately 10 minutes between 11am and 1pm to allow two cranes to lift the mobile substation into place, with the road returning to normal by 3pm. There will be lane closures again with detours on Thursday, 8 August between 9am and 3pm. We will provide details for road closures related to the removal of the mobile substation at a later date.
Dates and times of work can change depending on factors such as site conditions and weather.
Power outages
There will be two power outages on Sunday 11 August, associated with the installation of the mobile substation. The first outage will occur between 7.30am and 11am, lasting approximately three hours, and the second outage will occur between 11am and midday, lasting for about three minutes. We appreciate that this timing may not suit all customers and thank you for your patience during this work.
If your property will be affected, we have already sent a card, or sent SMS/emails to subscribed customers.
