Embracing the circular economy to further improve waste management results
The results for our Waste and Recycling Performance Review are in for 2022 and its great news. As an organisation we've increased our diversion from landfill from our previous personal best of 80% to 85%. An increase of 5%.
This means that 85% of all waste generated within our organisation avoided going to landfill last year which is a huge achievement for such a large and complex state-wide business.
SA Power Networks is a leader in terms of waste performance and recycling within South Australia, and we are looking forward to further improving our performance. We will do this by transitioning to a Circular Economy business model which will guide us toward zero waste that essentially focuses on waste prevention. The model encourages the redesign of resource and product life cycles so that all materials and products are reused. This reduces emissions, prevents pollution, and allows for the regeneration of natural systems.
The Circular Economy is an area of accelerated growth in the sustainability space and involves a strategic shift in our way of thinking. Currently, this is a focus within our business and by adopting a circular approach, we will continue to enhance our business performance and is one of the key areas that will drive SA Power Networks to achieve net-zero emissions by 2035.
