Celebrating a century of Stobie power: July 2024 will mark 100 years of the iconic innovation
Did you know that 2024 is the centenary of the ever-so-humble Stobie pole?
Just last week, the team responsible for crafting these iconic poles at our Angle Park facility celebrated a milestone: the production of the 100th pole this year, in this, the 100th year of the Stobie!
As we approach this significant milestone on 15 July, we’ll reflect on a century of commitment to powering communities, shaping landscapes, and fostering technological progress.
The Stobie pole, named after its inventor James Cyril Stobie, has become an enduring symbol. First introduced in 1924, these unique power poles have played a crucial role in the distribution of electricity across the state, standing tall against the test of time and the elements.
As we mark 100 years of the Stobie pole, it is amazing to think it remains an essential element of our network and will be powering South Australia's progress for generations to come.
Hats off to the Stobie pole, a true South Australian innovation and a beacon of reliability in our communities.
