Extreme weather - power restoration in the Mid and Far North
Our crews continue work to switch customers from temporary backup generation to network supply.
Update 1 November 2.05pm
Quorn
Restoration efforts in Quorn are now complete and customers have been switched from temporary backup generation back to network supply.
Customers in Quorn with rooftop solar can now switch their solar inverters back on. Read more about how to switch your solar inverter on / off.
Hawker
Hawker and its surrounding areas are currently powered by diesel generation. Customers are asked to keep their solar system inverters switched off until we provide advice that it is safe to turn them back on.

Leigh Creek
Leigh Creek and its surrounding areas are currently powered by diesel generation. Customers are asked to keep their solar system inverters switched off until we provide advice that it is safe to turn them back on.

Update 1 November 11.00am
SA Power Networks crews are currently undertaking work to switch customers in Quorn from temporary backup generation to network supply.
On 17 October 2024, a storm event (strong winds and lightning) impacted electricity supply to around 36,000 customers across South Australia, including the Quorn township and surrounds. Due to the significant repairs required to the 33kV sub-transmission line supplying Quorn, the community was placed on backup power generation until repairs to the network could be completed. With that work now complete, crews are working to switch from the temporary generation to network supply by 1pm this afternoon.
Customers are currently experiencing a planned outage while this switch takes place.
Once power is restored, customers will be able to switch their solar inverters back on. Read more about how to switch your solar inverter on / off.
SA Power Networks is grateful to the Quorn community for its patience, support and cooperation throughout this period.
Update 22 October 2.30pm
Power restored to communities in the Mid and Far North.
Update Tuesday 22 October 8.30am
Power was restored to Hawker township last night at 8.25pm via generation.
We expect to connect most outlying areas today. For the safety of our crews, this will involve a power outage again to Hawker township which we will limit as much as possible.
We will send text message and emails to all subscribed customers affected in advance. If you do not already receive notifications from us about your power, you can subscribe on our website, here or call 13 12 61 after 9am for help.
We appreciate the support we have received from all Far North communities as we work to progressively restore power.
We will keep our website updated with more information about power outages and restoration.
The Department of Energy and Mining also continues to update their website with information related to the coordinated response in the Far North.
Update Sunday 20 October 3pm
We are on track to restore power to Hawker township late Monday via a generator.
We expect to connect the generator to Leigh Creek township late Tuesday afternoon.
Several businesses are operating as normal via generation now.
It may take longer to fully restore power to customers in outlying areas as we find and repair faults.
We have teams based locally for network inspections and repairs and will continue to maintain a local response while generators are connected.
We remind customers with solar panels installed to keep their inverters turned off while the generators are connected as the exported energy can interfere with the generators, which risks power loss to all customers.
To switch off your solar system, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, or see our general advice: sapowernetworks.co/Switch-off-solarPV
Update Saturday 19 October 3pm
Fewer than 1000 customers remain without power.
We were able to supply customers in the Quorn township last night by generation around 8pm. Our crews continue to work on repairs for customers outside the town.
It may still be a few days before we can connect generation to Hawker and Leigh Creek due to the technical complexity.
The Department of Energy and Mining has more information related to the coordinated response in the Far North on their website.
We have extra crews continuing to work in all areas still affected by power outages.
Update 18 October 8.00 pm
We expect that the majority of affected customers, other than Hawker and Leigh Creek, will have power restored by midnight on 18 October. All areas may still experience intermittent interruptions throughout the duration of restoration works.
Quorn, Hawker and Leigh Creek
With significant damage to electrical infrastructure due to extreme weather, we are working to provide temporary supply solutions for customers through electricity generation until full restoration of the damaged infrastructure is complete.
We expect generation to be operational for Quorn tonight, and for Hawker and Leigh Creek in the next couple of days.
We request that customers in Quorn, Hawker and Leigh Creek with rooftop solar switch off their solar energy systems at the main solar isolator switch until we advise that it is safe to turn them back on again as exported solar energy can interfere with the generator which risks the supply to all customers.
To switch off, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, or see our general advice: sapowernetworks.co/Switch-off-solarPV
State-wide
Our crews are working to resolve smaller, but widespread outages stretching across the state from Port Augusta to Padthaway. We expect the majority of customers to have power restored by midnight of 18 October. However, some may remain without supply until tomorrow in areas with multiple faults or where access to infrastructure is difficult.
