Changes to standard AS4777 announced
SA Power Networks is currently assessing the implications of the newly published AS/NZS4777.1:2024 standard. This review focuses on the impact it will have on our operations, particularly concerning the technical requirements for CER connections. These connections are governed by our Technical Standards TS129, TS132, TS133, and our Service and Installation Rules.
Updating documentation to align with new standards
We're committed to updating our documentation to reflect and align with the new AS/NZS4777.1:2024 standard. As stated in the standard's Preface, we aim to complete these updates within the six-month overlap period while the AS/NZS4777.1:2016 standard remains current.
Current standards remain in effect
It's important to note that our existing Technical Standards and Service and Installation Rules remain in effect. This means that all current and future applications must adhere to these requirements, even if they differ from the new AS4777.1:2024 standard.
This is particularly relevant to the requirement for Central Protection for generating systems with a nameplate rating greater than 31kW. SA Power Networks will continue to enforce this requirement as outlined in our Technical Standards. This is in line with the AER's determination within Clause 3.4.5.1 of the AS/NZS4777.1:2024, which allows electricity distributors to specify additional requirements for interface protection and specific configurations for their region.
Keeping Customers Informed
We understand the importance of keeping our customers informed about these changes. We will provide an Industry Update and engage in customer consultations regarding this and any other requirements that may be affected by the update to AS/NZS4777.1:2024. These discussions will be incorporated into the updates to our documentation.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to align our operations with the new AS/NZS4777.1:2024 standard. Our commitment to providing reliable and efficient power services remains our top priority.
