The iconic Stobie pole rated out-of-this-world, literally!

Stobie poles to the moon! We're partnering with a major international space agency to take Stobie poles to space.
Our very own iconic Stobie pole is heading to the moon!
In a groundbreaking development that’s sure to electrify the cosmos, SA Power Networks is thrilled to announce a unique partnership with a major international space agency. We are not able to reveal the partner just yet, but we can reveal that Stobie poles will be used to power up a space station on the surface of the moon.
A century of innovation sparks lunar interest
In 2024, we celebrated our iconic Stobie pole turning 100 years old.
Following the enthusiastic response to our 100th-anniversary celebrations last year, it seems our Stobie pole's robust design and enduring legacy have caught the eye of the world's leading space agencies. In its quest to establish a sustainable lunar base, they have recognised the unparalleled durability and adaptability of the Stobie pole.
"We were looking for a reliable and cost-effective solution for power distribution on the lunar surface," said a spokesperson. "The Stobie pole, with its proven resilience against the harsh South Australian climate, presented an ideal candidate. We were particularly impressed with its ability to withstand extreme temperatures and environmental conditions, qualities we need on the moon."

Stobie poles: From South Australia to the lunar surface
The project, dubbed "Project Stobie Poles in Space (SPS)," will see a small-scale power grid constructed on the moon, utilising specially modified Stobie poles. These poles, adapted for the lunar environment, will support power distribution from solar panels and transmission lines, powering essential infrastructure for future lunar missions.
"We're incredibly proud that our humble Stobie pole, a symbol of South Australian ingenuity, is playing a pivotal role in humanity's next giant leap," said Cecilia Schutz, SA Power Networks Manager of External Affairs, "It's a testament to the enduring quality of our infrastructure and the innovative spirit that drives our company."
Remaining grounded in our commitment to customers
While we're excited about this large, lunar development, we also want to remind everyone to keep their feet firmly on the ground. We understand that this is a very exciting and slightly unbelievable project, but we want to reassure our customers that our main goal is to keep the power on and reliable here in South Australia.
We encourage our followers to share their own lunar-powered Stobie pole designs using the hashtag #LunarStobie. Who knows, perhaps one day they will be used on Mars!

And while we're reaching for the stars, remember, even the most reliable poles can't change the calendar. Happy 1st of April (April Fools' Day)!
