Big battery to be installed in Lameroo
A cutting-edge high-voltage battery will soon be installed in Lameroo to provide a more reliable and stable electricity supply for local residents and businesses.
SA Power Networks, in partnership with the District Council of Southern Mallee, is bringing this initiative to life, ensuring better power delivery—especially during peak times of the year. The battery will also help maintain a more consistent voltage for the region, benefiting homes and businesses at the end of the long 33,000kV feeder.
It will deliver:
-
More reliable power supply, even during high-demand periods
-
Better voltage consistency for homes and businesses
-
Support for local renewable energy use
The Lameroo battery will be located at the existing substation site on Philbey Rd and will feature a 2MW/2MWh system—a powerful tool to strengthen the electricity network without the need for costly infrastructure upgrades.
This project is part of a broader statewide effort, jointly funded by SA Power Networks and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), that will see eight innovative battery systems installed across regional South Australia.
SA Power Networks External Affairs Manager, Cecilia Schutz, highlighted the importance of this investment: "Batteries like this provide a smart and efficient way to improve power delivery in regional areas, helping communities like Lameroo benefit from more stable and efficient energy supply."
District Council of Southern Mallee Mayor, Ron Valentine, echoed this sentiment: "This is a fantastic step forward for Lameroo. Council is proud to support this initiative, which will directly enhance electricity supply for the wider community."
The high-voltage battery is scheduled for installation in September 2025 and is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
