What is Voltage Variation

The Small Claims Scheme is applicable for certain types of voltage variations caused by failures in our electricity infrastructure, excluding incidents like natural events, third-party damages, or contact with fauna or flora.

Small Compensation Claims Regime - specified voltage range for time period
> 10 seconds ≤10 seconds Impulse
+13% (260v)
-14% (198v)
Phase to earth = +50%, -100%
Phase to phase = +20%, -100%
>6kV Peak

Voltage Variation explained

  • Greater than (>) 10 seconds of variation outside this range: 198v to 260v
  • Variations for (<=) 10 seconds or less above the following
    • Phase to earth = 345v (single phase devices)
    • Phase to phase = 480v (three phase devices)
  • Impulse is referring to very high-speed short duration spikes in voltages lasting microseconds (akin to a lightning strike).  Impulse voltages outside of the range of 0 to 6kV.
